⬛️ 🪨 BlackRock is all-in on blockchain

If you have been reading my past newsletters, you would have noticed that more and more institutions are beginning to either tokenize their own financial products or at the very least take a deeper dive into it.

BlackRock is no exception to this as their CEO just validated our industry.

Before we break that down, for fun, let's take a walk down memory lane on some of the different 'rocks' we've romanticized and what the takeaways were:

First, we had the Web2 version of the 'Pet Rock' (bear with me on this one... I know what you are thinking) where a man by the name of Gary Dahl sold 1 million pet rocks for $1/each, which made him a millionaire.

It was quite a rare success story where an entrepreneur took money from customers and didn't do anything illegal with it! 😉

Just a true, genuine rock sommelier hard at work here.

Second, via the inspiration of the 'Pet Rock' came the Web3 version, or really the Web 2.5 of the rock with multiple 7 figure sales of an NFT of a rock...

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, I don't believe NFT holders received an IRL rock .. which wouldn't have provided very much utility.

"What can I do with the rock, Jonah?"

The main takeaway from these projects/campaigns is as a society we knew that Web3 was powerful, but we didn't know how to truly harness it.

Through every innovation comes a lot of cool things such as NFTs, cryptos, DAOs, DeFi, etc, but the real value-add of Web3 is when you couple compliance/regulatory controls together with blockchain.

That's what we call security tokens and that brings me to the third and most valuable rock... BlackRock!

BlackRock is not the third nor the second, but the world's largest asset manager on the planet with US$10 trillion in assets under management as of January 2022.

So basically, when the CEO of BlackRock says something... you listen.

In fact, the CEO of BlackRock Larry Fink said that "the next generation for markets, the next generation for securities, will be tokenization of securities."

Speaking at a New York Times DealBook event, Fink argued that tokenization will provide “instantaneous settlement” and “reduced fees.”

He went on to emphasize that the implementation of tokenization wouldn't interfere with their business model.

We the subscribers of this newsletter obviously knew this for a while now, but I'm glad to see the behemoths are finally seeing the writing on the wall.

Seems like every week a new financial incumbent is getting on the tokenization train.

🏫 Landshare plants its flag

In an astonishing achievement, even in turbulent market conditions, Landshare reached its funding target in only two days!

This was made possible by our data partner, Stobox, who created an incredible platform to facilitate these offerings.

For those of you who don't know...

Landshare is a US-based company that launched one of the first tokenized real estate platforms on the Binance blockchain and might be the only security token on Binance Chain (to my knowledge).

No longer are real estate deals exclusive to the rich or people with connections, now anyone anywhere can get a piece of the pie for only $50!

Normally, they enable you to invest for as little as $50 in real estate with dividends paid out from the tenant, but this time they are tokenizing a house flipping opportunity where the investor will have "hopefully" earn a profit after the sale in the future.

Congratulations to Landshare and the Stobox teams! We can't wait to see more offerings sell out this quickly.
